In 2007, theorist Vincent van Gerven Oei and visual artist Jonas Staal started their project Monumental Research. They did fieldwork in the Netherlands, and during residencies in Chicago and Beijing. They took part in the exhibition Since we last spoke about monuments curated by Mihnea Mircan at Stroom Den Haag in 2008. The works shown in this brochure form a selection, mainly centered in and around but always in relation to the city of The Hague, the political center of the Netherlands and the self-proclaimed 'City of Justice and Peace'.
