Fireside Conversations is a collection of six critical essays by invited writers in response to six talks held in the Fire Station in 2007/2008. The themes are wide and varied. They range from Polish artist Artur Zmijewski’s essay The Applied Social Arts, to U.S. curator Mary Jane Jacob’s long-term work with communities in Charleston. They address current debates around studio provision for artists, as well as contested notions around arts and disability and ‘Disability Arts’. One common thread that runs through these conversations is the various and sometimes contested notions of ‘collaboration’ and ‘participation’.
