A series of bloody attacks on Belgian supermarkets came to an end in the autumn of 1985. The attacks, perpetrated by a gang known in English as the ‘Gang of Nivelles’ and in Dutch as the ‘Bende van Nijvel’ left 28 people dead. The father of Jan Rosseel (b. 1979) was one of them. Despite extensive police inquiries, a detailed dossier, recovered evidence and witness accounts, the assailants have never been caught and the attacks remain unsolved. This violent period is seen as one of the darkest pages in Belgian history. Today, almost thirty years later, the police investigation is still officially open. This book is Jan Rosseel’s personal quest for the Gang of Nivelles, made up of photographs and documents, memories and references.
