The independent art space Despacio, located in San José, Costa Rica, was founded by the artist Federico Herrero with the simple premise that there is something positive to be gained by local and international artists speaking to one another. Suspended above the chaotic atmosphere of the city, Despacio highlights individual explorations of the temporary, the absent, the forgotten, the mis- or dis-translated, the transience of things. This book marks the beginning and end of Despacio, documents its first 10 years of activity, and looks at a hypothetical decade of new possibilities.
