In 2000, Coffin initiated his own independent nation and began collecting information about other such projects around the world. This file contains articles and a press release on the exhibtion ÉTATS (faites-le vous-même) / ‘Grow Your Own’, set up by the artist Peter Coffin. It brought together an impressive range of micronations, sovereign independent states, concept nation states, and secession movements like Empire of Atlantium AVL Ville (Atelier Van Lieshout), The Franklin Abraham (Jonah Freeman), Nutopia (Ono and Lennon) […et al.]. ‘Grow Your Own’ was an expanded version of the exhibtion on the same subject Coffin organised in 2005, called ‘We Could Have Invited Everyone’, at the Andrew Krepps Gallery, NY. Grow Your Own aims to blur the distinction between art, politics, anarchy and fiction. The governments, societies and artists represented in the exhibition have lent some of their symbols for display
