Scramble City is a visual essay by Lada Hrsak, Michiel van Iersel, Dieuwertje Komen and Neeltje ten Westenend. It presents the cross section of a fictitious secondary city, composed of elements from nine European cities. It is a visual essay recording a journey through a fragmented urban landscape. Containing an inventory of official and informal attempts to make sections of the city unique and liveable, with a focus on cultural interventions. It is ultimately a journey through time: The successes and failures in the creation of urban identity over the past decade. Scramble City is one of 4 cahiers each providing its own account of a study trip examining cultural politics in European secondary cities organized in 2010 by the former Netherlands Foundation for Visual Arts, Design and Architecture . The series also included 'Claiming Visibility : The Politics of Public Art', 'Balkan in de Polder : naar organische gebiedsontwikkeling in Nederland' and 'Lelysteden.'
